Looking Professional at Work - Some great Corporate Maternity Finds

Hi again

Just thinking about those mums that work in the corporate area and who still need to look smart and professional right to the end and I found the following excellent sites:

There is an American one  with a line of clothes that will keep expectant mums looking their professional best. Classic styles, quality fabrics, superior comfort…

http://www.searchbigdaddy.com/sbd/logowear.html.  They have the added bonus that they can embroider the company logo onto the clothing, making them tax-deductable for Australians (not sure how the USA tax laws work).

Then there is this Australian site which has some terrific jackets which would also suit if you needed to go somewhere formal during your pregnancy.  They are at http://www.maternity-me.com.au/subcatDisplay/Corporate+Maternity+Clothes.

and no I don't get any commission from either of them  just think they are worth a look.

To a 'smart' pregnancy!

Dii

Stress and Time Management for a New Parent

  • Weather at my place: at last!

Hi Everyone!

Weather has finally warmed up with a lovely 38 degrees yesterday so Perth is finally living up to the myth that it is always wonderful weather here.

I just wanted to give a thought to one of the not so great things about having a new baby ... stress and time management:

*********************************

Quote: There are three reasons for breast-feeding:

The milk is always at the right temperature, it comes in attractive containers and the cat can't get it.

- Irena Chalmers

*********************************

Stress is something that you have to be particularly mindful of if you are a new mum or dad for the first time as coping with the change in lifestyle and the fact that you could become somewhat sleep deprived in the early stages makes it essential that you take time out to look after your own health so that you are capable of dealing with the every day running of your life while managing the needs of your newborn child.

The less stressed you are the less stressed your child will be and that in turn will lead to a better night's sleep and happier and healthier child. This in turn will have a cumulative effect in reducing your stress and ensuring that you get more sleep as well.

Try not to rush too many things and give yourself sufficient time to get whatever needs to be done without becoming stressed due to the constant demands being placed upon you.

It is quite normal for you to become unhappy and have thoughts that might not be what you would expect in the initial stages of having a newborn child. If this is causing distress get professional help as there is plenty available and the professionals who deal with these problems have a full understanding of the best methods of coping so that you can enjoy all aspects of your child's upbringing.

Let others help with the workload and try to get on to a reasonable routine where you manage to get all your necessities done each day. Part of this can mean taking control of people who want to visit and take up your time. While they are most likely well-meaning in their actions some people just don't understand what is involved in bringing home a new baby and the lack of time and sleep that the new mother and father will have to deal with.

Even small steps can go a long way to reducing your stress so planning times during the day when you can get an extra hour or two of sleep or simply getting somebody to do some of the shopping for you can affect not only your levels of stress but your overall happiness, enjoyment of life and the ability to give your child quality time.

Until next time ... sleep well!

We should talk about Birth Plans

  • Mood:
  • Weather at my place:

Top Five Reasons Why you should have a Birth Plan before you
go into Labor

You will find there are many opinions on what kind of birth is best. Will yours be a Natural birth or medically assisted? Within those two broad areas there are many choices again Whatever birth method you and your partner decide on a Birth Plan is vital.

1. A Birth Plan is a channel of CommunicationWorking through the Birth Plan with your partneris extremely helpful in getting a clear picture of what you both want and expect during labor and the birth.

2. A Good Birth Plan should give you Confidence : It will help you both feel in control of the process, especially if you are having a hospital birth. You can discuss your options with your Doctor and midwife more clearly as, in writing your Birth Plan, you will research many things which you may otherwise not have thought of. Your birth plan will allow your doctor/midwife and nurses to be clear about what you want. You should discuss this with your pregnancy caregiver between your 32 - 36 weeks of pregnancy. In this way there will be no surprises for you or your caregiver in what choices you have made or need to make and you will know the amount of flexibility the hospital/birthing center allows couples in their personal choices. That means if your birthing center can't or won't give you what you really want you still have time to find an alternative.

3. A Birth Plan gives Reassurance. Getting your doctor or midwife to agree and initial it before the due date means you can provide it to the birthing center when checking in. It is really reassuring to know exactly what to expect from your birth and health provider before going into labor. As importantly, your partner or support person can make the right decisions for you if you can't.

4. Provides a Plan in an Emergency. You will have discussed many alternatives while preparing your Birth Plan. This will allow quick, calm decisions to be made should an unexpected emergency arise during labor.

5. Bonding at Birth. In discussing and preparing your plan you will both come to know the really important and less important aspects you want in welcoming your baby into the world. Almost certainly it will help get mother and baby off to a great start and will be good for the whole family.

Importantly   it  also  helps  when  all  chaos  has  broken loose, and  labor  pains  have  taken  control of that sweet, loving  woman  and now she is a bundle of growling, panting, groaning,  swearing, humanity. At least you know some of the
answers  in  advance  (but  be  warned Plan B could swing in anytime  …  ‘cos  you  know  a  girl always has the right to change her mind!).
